Q: How do you get rid of pimples?

********

A:

Who doesn't hate pimples? They are repulsive, annoying and unsightly. The bad news is, there is actually no quick fix aside from cortisone shots, which can be hefty. Squeezing them is a no-no because no one really wants to get scars. Topical creams usually work but they do not take effect immediately. You will still need to lock yourself up for a few days before the little pests disappear.

I have been battling pimples since time immemorial but through the years, I learned how to vanquish them. Sure they come back, but they do not last long anymore. What's my trick? Nothing special, really. Most of the things you need, you can find either at home or in drug stores. Please keep in mind that what worked for me, might not work for you. It's worth a try, though. You can use some or all of the things listed below.

1. Gentle Facial Wash. Wash face with warm (NOT HOT) water. I suggest Nivea Gentle Facial Wash Gel, Neutrogena Deep Clean Facial Cleanser, or Dove Soap

2. Ice cube. It reduces redness and swelling. Using a clean tissue or a towelette, apply it directly to the affected area for 5-10 minutes.

3. Topical cream/ointment containing Salicylic Acid or Benzoyl Peroxide. These ingredients dry up pimples. PanOxyl, Bioderm, and yes, Katialis, are quite potent. After treating the pimples with ice cube, put a small amount (READ: SMALL, just right on top of the pimples, so as to avoid unwanted red marks after the zits are gone) of cream/ointment on the affected area.

4. Acne Patch. Acne patches are reliable when you want to go out without having blobs of anti-spot cream on your face. They help clear pimples because they absorb oil. Simply put the patch on the affected area. It dramatically reduces the size of a pimple after a few hours of wearing it. Plus the good news is, you can wear it under makeup. Nexcare, Dermalife and Neutrogena Acne Patches are good.

5. Aspirin. Aspirin contains beta hydroxy acid which has anti-inflamatory properties. Before you go to bed, crush 6-8 pieces of aspirin, add a bit of water or honey until paste-like texture is achieved, then apply the mask on your face. Leave on for half an hour, then rinse with water. This is a very effective way to zap zits.

Once again, NEVER, AS IN N-E-V-E-R, SQUEEZE PIMPLES!!!
