APPLICANTS FOR EMBASSY SERVICES ENJOINED TO OBSERVE H1N1 PRECAUTIONS Print E-mail

The Philippine Embassy is reminding its transacting public of the need to strictly adhere to the Ministry of Health’s prescribed guidelines for the prevention of the transmission of Influenza A, or the H1N1 virus.

At a meeting with Filipino community leaders on 27 June, Ambassador Minda Cruz urged Filipinos in Singapore to cooperate with the Embassy’s H1N1 precautions, which are intended to ensure that its premises remain safe for the public.

“We have asked our frontline personnel to wear masks to protect them against possible infection,” the Philippine envoy announced. “We are also encouraging applicants for consular services to take similar precautions to prevent the possible spread of the virus within the embassy premises.”

Ambassador Cruz further emphasized that as infants and children aged 8 years and below, as well as senior citizens (those aged 65 years and above) are not required to make a personal appearance to apply for a Philippine passport, the Embassy recommends that applicants that fall into these two categories avoid coming to the Embassy unless strictly necessary.

“According to the Ministry of Health, young children and the elderly are particularly susceptible to the H1N1 virus,” the Ambassador noted. “As the Embassy receives a high volume of consular applicants on a regular basis, we strongly advise that applicants with infants or elderly companions take appropriate precautions.”

Likewise, applicants who have recently returned from countries with community-level outbreaks of H1N1 are enjoined to observe a voluntary 7-day quarantine prior to engaging in any public activities.

The public’s cooperation on this matter is appreciated.
